The Spark: Inspired by Art Battle (and a Leap of Faith)

It all started when I attended an Art Battle event. If you’ve never been, it’s an incredible, high-energy live painting competition where artists have a limited amount of time to create a masterpiece while a crowd watches them work. The energy in the room was electric. The community vibe was undeniable.

As a photographer, I stood there watching the painters and thought, “There is so much untapped potential here. Why isn’t anyone doing this for the photography world?”

My initial instinct was traditional: I wanted to be a part of it. I actually thought about approaching the owner of Art Battle to try and get a job with them to help expand their ecosystem. But then I hit a wall of realism. I knew how the creative industry worked, and I figured he would likely reject my pitch or turn me down.

Instead of letting that discourage me, I decided to take a gamble on myself. If I couldn’t work for the existing model, I would build something entirely new from scratch.

Turning a Vision Into Reality (With a Little Help)

An idea is just an idea until you execute it, and I am the first to admit that I couldn’t have made this happen alone. Building a new brand and an interactive photography event requires a massive amount of behind-the-scenes hustle.

That is where my incredible girlfriend, Laura Kazimierska, comes in. While I focus on the photography mechanics and event structure, Laura has been the absolute engine behind our digital growth. She has been doing an unbelievable job managing our Instagram, building our online community, and transforming our raw event footage into visual stories that resonate with people. If you’ve found your way to our community through social media, you have Laura to thank for that.

What is PhotoConcept and How Does It Work?

So, what exactly is PhotoConcept?

At its core, PhotoConcept is an interactive, fast-paced photography event designed to challenge creators, celebrate visual storytelling, and bring photography out from behind the computer screen into a live community setting. It strips away the sterile nature of traditional galleries and replaces it with real-time creative adrenaline.

Here is exactly how a typical PhotoConcept event works:

  • The Reveal: Photographers gather at the designated event space. Everyone is given a specific theme or “concept” at the exact same time.

  • The Countdown: Creators hit the streets or the studio with a strict time limit to capture, select, and submit their single best shot that embodies the theme. It forces you to rely on raw instinct, composition skills, and quick environmental adaptation.

  • The Live Showcase & Vote: All submissions are gathered and displayed live for the audience and peers to see. The community interacts with the gallery, discusses the different interpretations of the theme, and votes on the most compelling visual stories.

It’s part street photography, part creative challenge, and entirely focused on community building. Whether you are a seasoned pro shooting on a high-end mirrorless setup or an enthusiast with a smartphone, the event is about how you see the world, not just the gear you use.
